Hi welshspencer,

Have you tried Debrett's peerage, baronetage, knightage, and companionage link

There are lots of free books on the peerage on http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=peerage
including 8 Volumes of  "The Scots peerage : founded on Wood's ed. of Sir Robert Douglas's Peerage of Scotland; containing an historical and genealogical account of the nobility of that kingdom" by Paul, James Balfour, Sir, 1846-1931

There's only one Christening for a John Drake in 1795 in Devon, son of John Drake and Jenny  on 04 JAN 1795    Withycombe Raleigh, Devon, England on the igi.
Having said that, just because it say's he was born in 1795 in Devon on the peerage site doesn't mean he was christend in Devon, although it would be quite possible.

I do not think this will be any good to me, as he never got his title till 1919 and the date of the book is 1876

I have a Debretts here from 1917 but I guess that isn't quite late enough? Undecided I also have a Whitakers and a Dods but they are 1905 and 1906 respectively. Smiley I'll have a look if it's any help though.
