Elizabeth Emerson
« on: Sunday 11 November 07 03:27 UTC (UK) »

Trying to find out what happened to Elizabeth daughter of Caleb Emerson and Elizabeth McKie. Elizabeth Emerson was living in Stranraer Wigtownshire  in 1856 unmarried but nothing after that. She inherited all her mothers belongings. Any information would be great thanks Lynne  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Hi Polly

So that I can get my searching parameters  correct, was she the one living with her mother in McCulloch Place, Inch in the 1851. Aged 24 and born England?

Added and in 1841, they are both in Charlotte Street, Stranraer.

The IGI, controlled extraction, has her bpt. 15 January 1826, St Nicholas, Liverpool.

I was wondering if she might have gone there  Undecided  Her mother was born Stranraer so maybe she had relatives there. Difficult as she is not immediately coming up in Scotland in 1861 with England as a birthplace. There are two marriages in Kirkcudbrightshire but much later.

I'll keep looking!

This may be giving you what you already know but I'm trying to find out about her parents' families. I see that Caleb Emerson and Elizabeth Mckie married/banns, Stranraer, 12 January 1818.

No baptisms of siblings in Wigtownshire but one in Liverpool:

Wellington Emerson, bpt. 10 June 1827, St Nicholas, Liverpool

She doesn't seem to have obviously married or died or appear in the 1861 census in Scotland or England. Have you checked any emigration records?

Hi Gadget
Oh yes that is her and her mother All I know is that she was alive in 1856 when she inherited her mother estate, one of the conditions was that she was to marry and if she didn't her inhertiance was to go to Alexander and Caleb. She did have a brother Wellington seems he died as a small child no records of him though, another brother Alexander was born 1825 in scotland and moved, married and died in Ontario, her eldest brother Caleb was born in Ireland 1821 he is who Iam descended through he came to Australia married twice and had seven children. Iam have great difficulty finding a death date and place for Caleb senior he was a surgeon in the royal navy but was deceased by 1849 when Elizabeth his wife drew up her will. The navy explains why the cildren were born in three different countries.
