Dykes - Andover 1700's
« on: Monday 12 November 07 08:09 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for the parents and other ancestors of Stephen Dykes born in Andover 1761.
Have a possible link to Richard Dikes and Elizabeth Andrews but no places or dates as yet.
Would be grateful for any help.

Hi Lynne,

Welcome to RootsChat.

I have found the following

Stephen Dikes baptised 11 Jan 1761 in Wonston, Hampshire, parents Richard and Elisabeth

No other siblings baptised there.  Richard and Elisabeth seem to have married in Amport in 1753

No-one named Dykes baptised in Andover until Stephen's son in 1787.

I don't even seem to be able to find Richard's burial in Hampshire.  They obviously moved about, although I see Stephen himself stayed in Andover, he was buried there in 1826.

Many thanks for that Nell. I found a Richard Dikes born 13/3/1720 in Chatteris, Cambs. on Familysearch but have no way of knowing if this is the same Richard who is Stephen Dikes of Wonford's father.

Yes, that is a problem.  I could not make any connections - no documents listed in the catalogue at Winchester which might have assisted.

Sorry not to have been of more assistance.
