Thankyou Ian
Mary Ann would have been the one who died and it appears that Edward didn't hang around and married an Eliza..........as per the 1901 census you provided for Edward
Thanks for all the info Bryant

Even though Eliza (new wife) has her mother alongside her in 1901 and her mother's name is Weight, Eliza's surname wasn't Weight when she married Edward Clark as she would have been married at least once before!
1841 Chequers Court school house, Ellesborough, Bucks John Weight 26 schoolmaster N (not born Bucks) Elizabeth " 26 N Elizabeth " 10 months Y --------------
1861 Ripley Street, Ripley, Surrey John Weight head 45 formerly schoolmaster St Anns Soho, Middx Eliza " wife 38 laundress Mitcham, Surrey Isabella " daur 14 Gloucestershire John " son 10 Ripley, Surrey Eliza " daur 8 " Charles Gilbert " son 4 " Frederick William Blon? " son 2 " Frank " son 8 months " ----------------
1871 Village, Ripley, Surrey John Weight head 55 annuitant St James, Middx Eliza " wife 48 laundress Morden, Surrey Charles G " son 14 Ripley, Surrey Fredrick " " 11 " Frank " " 4 " Lucy Barrett adopted 8 St James, Middx Isobel Theobald gdaur 2 Ripley, Surrey ---------------
then again...........it appears she didn't marry, although looking at the ages John & Eliza named one of their daughter's Elizabeth and another Eliza and they don't appear on the same census!
1881 census 2 Selsdon Rd, Croydon, Surrey, John Weight Head 65 invalid London City, London, Middlesex Eliza " Wife 58 Morden, Surrey Elizabeth " Daur 40 dressmaker Weston Turville, Buckingham Fredk. Wm. B. " Son 22 gas fitter Ripley, Surrey Ada Cottee Nursechild 6 Croydon, Surrey Gilbert Taylor Nursechild 2 Croydon, Surrey ---------
