Not sure what's in the books photo wise but a couple of books on Stewkley are....Stewkley in camera vol 1&2. I know there is one in Milton Keynes library. I also think my mother in law may have both as she was born in the village. I will scout about and see what I can find.
I have volume two of Stewkley in Camera, but volume one is not readily available, and there has been no reprint.
There must be some history of the place, as it dates back to 1690's, but dont' know where to look. My wife and I keep finding broken glass in the garden though, as it was a pub for many years.
As you know used to be many pubs in the village , now only the Swan in the middle of the village and the Carpenters arms near Dunton Rd. My mother in laws family were at the Bull for some years. I will give her a ring later and see what she can tell me. I seem to remember Milton Keynes had one book and Bletchley the other, just not sure which way round. In 1881 Walter Reeve was the inn keeper and his wife Sarah was Sarah Beasley. My mums cousin married a Beasley from the village so he may know as well.He has old photo's but not sure if any of the pub.
Are you able to get into Milton Keynes as they have copy 1 of Stewkley in camera.
Two lovely photo's of the plough one with the name over the door of William Elmer and a lot of locals outside. The other shows the road opposite Bowls farm barns. If not I have photo copies.
Prefer Internet shopping as its less stressful , but sometimes venture out to MK. Thanks, will try to get it out, would really like to have my own copy though. I have volume 2, as I lived in Stewkley when that one was readily available. Also, the details of 1881 are interesting, and managed to retrieve all from IGI. I think that Aylesbury Brewery owned the place for sometime, so maybe worth contacting them.
