Hallo, I am looking for the parents of Zachariah Giles, general labourer, living in Croydon (Handcross Alley to be precise) but born in Wiltshire in about 1804. I am going to do a posting in the Wiltshire section but I know that all his children and descendents lived in Croydon or the surrounding area and so . . . is there anyone here who has any information for us as we just cannot seem to find his parents Cheers and thanks Kirk

Hi Georgefriedrich.
The 1841 census lists Zachariah's wife as Honor.
There is an IGI entry which lists a marriage at Ramsbury,Wiltshire of a Zachariah Giles and Honour Stephens. This was on Nov 6,1824.
There is also an IGI entry for a bap. of Honour Stephens dau.of James & Sarah Stephens on Jan 20,1805.
With this, and in accordance of Giles stated birthplace on the 1861 census,it would seem that searches in Wiltshire may reveal more information regarding Giles ancestry.
Regards, Dave.

Thanks everyone for your help! I wrote my posts on Rootschat then forgot to look at replies! I offer my sincere apologies for that. Yes that is Zachariah dying in 1869 and from careful hunting I found him in 1841 1851 and 1861 so he must have migrated to Croydon prior to that time. He is a tricky customer to locate but I shall keep trying. Thanks once again Kirk (who will remember to look at replies to his posts from now on!)
