Help with Death Please 1886
« on: Sunday 30 March 08 18:49 BST (UK) »

HiYall
I have a rellie who has proved quite hard to find in the census as he changes his age to flatter himself when ladies are about! Plus with all the mispellings and transcription erros he has been a right pain in the proverbiable

His name was Joseph Tivey. He was born in Melbourne Derbyshire 1809. He came from quite a poor family and his parents apprenticed several of their children out. Joseph was hired by John Perry, a steel toy maker from Aston, Warwickshire.

He married Emma Davis 07 Oct 1839 Edmonton. They had two children who both died in infancy.

In 1841 Emma & Joseph are living at Mill Street/Forge Street, Aston, Duddeston (as he was all through his life ~ that is the only reason why I have managed to find him!) He is a shoemaker (this was also the profession of his father) On ancestry he is transcribed as Joseph Tury HO107/1149 Folio: 44; Page: 10

1851 he is a widow living with his deceased wife's sister Elizabeth Davis at Mill Street, this time he was transcribed as Joseph Tweey, HO107/2061; Folio: 101; Page: 11

1861 again with Elizabeth transcribed as Joseph Twig RG9/2177; Folio: 133; Page: 34.

1871 RG10/3148; Folio: 19; Page: 32; This time correctly transcribed as Joseph Tivey. Still with Elizabeth but also a lodger Boatman Thomas Wilton or Witton.

1881 Emma has passed away and he is with Thomas RG11/3030; Folio: 66; Page: 23; By this time he gives his age as 74~ he is much younger on the other census, but I know that this is the same person as there were only Two Tivey families in Warwickshire 1830s-1890's~ Joseph and his brother John.

After that I cannot find him (he isnt at Mill Street where he resided in all the other census) so i presume he has passed away. However, I cannot find a death for him on the GRO at all.

The nearest one I can find is Joseph TIDDY died December Qtr 1886 Aston District.

Does anyone have access to burial registers in Aston (Duddeston) so i can cross match his death and send for this certificate ~ I dont want to waste my money if it isnt him ~ all help will be gratefully appreciated,

Many Thanks Kiss Kiss Kiss

Hello Jan
Can't help with the burial register but I can tell you there is no Joseph Tiddy in Warwickshire that I can find, if this helps.
