Hi JJ
Thanks for your reply
Sorry you had to search for the post - I forgot to give you the original date of posting -(I will admit that I have no idea how to find a post by its topic number or how to link to another topic)
I'll refresh for a minute so it will also help anyone else just logging on to the thread

The family you found in 1881 is correct - it is Daniel and it's Daniel on the grave but he also uses Donald (his father's name) on other census to confuse us
Unfortunately the key piece of info I needed on Isabella from the grave was worn right off - in fact it was the most worn grave we saw - but I have narrowed it down from her death info to Mar 1851 and born Victoria Co (which I believe was called something else bef 1851)
Until I find a marr rec her parentage is unproved but I had come to the conclusion that the 1861 of Margaret and the twins is the closest  - the one you found - esp as my ancestor is also a Margaret

I now know that Daniel's family emigrated abt 1834 and started out in Chinguacousy - he was b in Peel Co though the 1851 census says all the children b Scotland which is not true - and moved to Simcoe Co abt 1857 so it is also poss that Isabella's family also moved north since her ethnic origin is given as Scotch

The marriage has to be 1869/70 based on Isabella's age and birth of Christina in Dec 1870 but I have been through many many resources and drawn a blank so far

There were 8 children for Daniel and Isabella and Christina's is the only marr I have located so far apart from her sister Margaret Isabel who is my connection
Three children died young - Katherine, Warren and Walter
I have found no other info on the other 3 children yet
Edmond Angus c1874 (alia Angus), John Albert c1878, and James Arthur Sep 1880 so if you happen to spot anything while researching for anyome else I would be very happy

I'm not sure why it has been so difficult finding anything as Dan's brother John's family were a lot easier - I pretty well have all their children sorted out

Many thanks for your continued interest

Well we still needed to know on here that Donald was also called Daniel...That's important...
Did you find a marriage for his brother, Angus, who was born in Scotland?

To find a previous thread, just use keywords up in rootschat search with your username in the blank...
To link to a thread, just copy the url of the thread, and paste it into the thread...

For instance, I will link here, to the marriage of Christina

Hi J.J.

The name on his grave was the definite proof I needed that his name was Daniel and not Donald and that was just a couple of weeks back

Yes I have Angus's details and Karen gave me extra details on the marriage on a thread a few days ago
He was actually Daniel's cousin, his father died just before he was born in Islay and mother died en route to Canada apparently though I have yet to verify that
He seems to have been brought up with Daniel and his siblings and he took off to the US
He emigrated in 1883 and 2 of his sons were married in N Dakota
Quite a complicated family

I don't seem to have much luck when I use the RC search but I will keep a note of your hints
Thanks

Was just wondering where he married as he and Daniel seemed close, they lived in close proximity...so was wondering if you had the church Angus was married in so as to check there...
Did you have someone check the Simcoe County Marriage Index (1858-1869) although if it was available it should be on Ancestry...but you never know...http://members.shaw.ca/hornsby/lookups.htm

posting full names of marriages you seek:
Parents Daniel/Donald Johnston & Isabella Currie
Edmond Angus Johnston  b.c 1874 (alias Angus)
John Albert Johnston  b. c1878
James Arthur Johnston  b. Sept. 4 1880

You seem to have the families of some of them? Do you also have the names of the wives?

Did you check out the Currie family in 1901, a few households prior to Daniel? Plus a good idea to post for those searching

In 1891 I tried to look into the pages prior and after the Johnstons....but there appears to be 2 page 40's and no 39  Tongue

Hi J.J.

I'm afraid I do not know the name of the church where Angus was married - all I know is that it was in Peel Co - date was 4 Jul 1862 to Mary Bell  (d/o Neil/Mary)

Re the 3 boys whose full names you posted - I have no info at all on them or even if they did get married - according to my notes they are all home in 1891 and only Arthur is still at home in 1901 - I have no names of poss spouses

I have the deaths for the three children of Daniel and Isabella who died young and Margaret married Harold Ellison but not until 1920 - she was a nurse in the war so it's only those three boys I know nothing about

Hi J.J.

Thank you so much for finding James in BC
Yes I guess it is only natural that one sibling would follow another which was the case with some of Daniel's brother John's children heading to Sault Ste Marie

I did look at the BC Archives site and found the marriage and the death listed but a further search did not elicit any other Johns(t)on names that I recognised

Many thanks
