Hi folks,

      Am having problems finding a marriage between John White born Barkby c1847 and Emma "?" born 1845/46 Queniborough. Any ideas?

Hi

We need some "clues" when asking for a marriage lookup.  Giving their respective birthyears does not help with a marriage date as they could have married anytime from age 16yrs

When was their first child born and where - that is the best clue to a marriage date?

There are 2 possibles on freebmd -

Marriages March qtr 1867 

John White possible Emma Rowley on same page Lutterworth  7a 7

Marriages December qtr 1871   

John White  Leicester  7a 545
Emma Kilby on same page

If you are unable to determine the correct entry you will need to buy a copy of one of their childrens birth certs to get her maiden name

                   The eldest child I have any record of is Tom, born1872/73 and then Abagail born 1886. The son was born in Queniborough and the daughter in Eastwood. Notts

The 1881 census is free to search at www.familysearch.org and also at www.ancestry.co.uk

I think you mean Abigail was b 1876 not 1886

Martha  1 month  ditto
RG11 Piece 3128 Folio 73 Page 17

I have checked 1851-1871 censuses and cannot find an Emma Kilby or Emma Rowley b Queniborough

I checked freebmd and there is an 1845 birth for Emma Kilby in Barrow on Soar which was the registration district for Queniborough

I would still recommend you get a copy of one of their childrens birth certs

Just to add to the family - in 1891 they were still in Leicester - in Syston with all the above children and also these additions all b Syston

Naomi White 7 
John   7 
Luke   2 

John has left the police force and is a platelayer

Indexed as Emma HILBY.

No Emma Rowley of the right age Indexed on my Discs.
