What information in particular? It's a good idea to let us know what information you already have, to save duplication, although obviously there was a little in the 1861 census that was new to you. Would you like any earlier census information?

I have searched the census back to 1841 for Thomas May. I would like to fill in details about him and that link him to the Lord Raglan. Thanks for your help

I have just joined and see your request for information concerning Thomas MAY, licensed vitular of the Lord Raglan Inn, Clover Street, Derby. I am the great granddaughter of Thomas and his wife Hannah GOODWIN being descended through his youngest son Erasmus MAY born 1862, died 1934.
Did you know that he was the butler at Kedleston Hall for a number of years and when he married Hannah in the early 1850's he kept a beer house in (if my memory is correct) in Graham Street. I have copied his will from records at the DRO Matlock, he and Hannah are buried on Uttoxeter Old Road cemetary in 1895, they died within weeks of each other. She was older than him and lied about her age on the marriage certificate, they were married at St. Anne's church, Whitecross Street, Derby. Thomas's parents were Peter MAY (a very elusive ancestor) a hatter by trade who originated from Nottingham or Nottinghamshire and Frances FOWKES/FOULKES also from Nottingham, they were married in Nottingham and their first son (Peter Erasmus) was born and christened in Derby, Thomas was born and christened in Nottingham. Frances died before the 1841 census as the family are recorded as living on Burton Road, and he is remarried to a second wife. I have no details of his first wife's death, nor his second marriage. He is supposed to have emigrated to America in his old age and the last reference I can find to him is in a directory for 1857 where he (Peter) is described as a shop keeper living on Uttoxeter New Road. Where or if he went to the USA and where he died I would love to find out.
Regarding the GOODWIN family, their baptisms recorded them as living at Goodwin Street, Derby (now demolished for slum clearance in the 1960's), I have extracted this information from St. Anne's registers, there were a number of siblings and Edwin was Hannah's brother.
Are you descended from Thomas through his second son Thomas?
I have a lot of information on this family which I am pleased to exchange with you if you wish to contact me
Margaret.
