Hi Barbara

I have recieved the birth certificate of Robert Wright.
My date of 1867 was a mistake, he was born 1860 17th February, Upper Saltney, Hawarden. Registration District Hawarden, Sub district hawarden, County of Chester in Flint.

His parent were John Wright (Anchor Smith) married to Margaret Logan (Registrar not sure if it is Logen or Logan)

I would be grateful for the census info you have, please.
Hope this gives a bit more light to work with.

Thanks
Mandy

Just recapping, as these census seem to be the correct family, especially as Robert now known to be born 1860:
1861 RG9/2634 fol.20 p.36  Roberts's Row, Saltney
John Wright  head mar 34  Anchor Smith Northumberland
Margaret  "   wife   mar 41                              Cumberland
John         "   son          13  Scholar                 Durham
William     "      "             8        "                          "
Robert      "      "             1                               Flint, Saltney

1851:
HO107/2172 fol.857 p.25  Saltney Station
John Wright head mar 24 Labourer  Northumberland
Margaret  "   wife mar  31                Cumberland Longtown
Elizabeth  "    dau         5  Scholar     Durham Gateshead
John         "    son          2                          "          "
Thomas    "      "            9 months              "          "
Stephen Copeland visitor m 34 Labourer   "      Swalwell
Adam Henderson      "    wid. 56 Smith       "     Gateshead

There's a marriage in 1848 June qu Ripon 23/468 for John Wright with a Margaret Lacon on same page, don't know if they fit yet, seems unlikely place, will look for them both in 1841

Longtown Union Workhouse, Arthuret, Cumberland

Margaret Logan 20              b. Cumberland

names bracketed together so most likely mother & daughter, but not much help finding her parents  Roll Eyes
will look for other Logans in Longtown, wonder what happened to the baby, not with John & Margaret in 1851
birth reg Mary Logan 1840 Dec Qu Longtown &c 25/113

There's a Thomas Logan and a Robert Logan in 1841 Longtown area, but neither with parents, and a married Edward, could be Margaret's brothers, but unable to confirm that.  No sign of little Mary after 1841, perhaps adopted?

Barbara
again thanks,
I looked on the free BMD site to try and locate a marriage for John and Margarets, but with no luck.
Is there anywhere else I can to look?

You can use freembd to go through the images, go to homepage and click on 'images' at foot of page, or on ancestry, but it takes a while,
full indexes at findmypast but pay-to-view

I imagine the marriage was 1841-1845, as first child Elizabeth born c1846 Gateshead, so possibly either Gateshead or Longtown area  Undecided

It might be easier to look for Margaret Logan in marriages than John Wright, or perhaps you could post a request on the Cumberland board for a Parish register lookup for her birth and/or marriage??

I found this info on the above site

Marriage June 1841- John Wright.    Longtown.   Vol 25 page 101.
Unfortunately it doesn't give the name of the bride.

It may not be him though, there was another family of Wrights living in Longtown in 1841 with a John born same time as your John, but born Cumberland I've looked through marriages for Margaret Logan 1841-1845, can't see anything suitable. Undecided

To go back to the earlier census I promised, Robert Wright's brother John who married Elizabeth Fleet...

1871 RG10/3733 fol.43 p.27
47 William St, St. Oswald, Chester
William Parry head widr 76 Cord Winder  Chester
Elizabeth Fleet dau wid 41  Laundress        "
Elizabeth Wright g.dau m 26                        "
John Wright  grandson m 23 Anchorsmith Gateshead Durham
Margarett Wright gt.granddau 4 months   Chester

Marriage June 1841- John Wright.    Longtown.   Vol 25 page 101.
Unfortunately it doesn't give the name of the bride.

It gives two brides' names, Mary Irving and Jane Tweddle, will check 1851 census for them

There's a John & Jane Irving in 1851 so I think he married Jane Tweddle, and in 1851 he's a widower living with his father David in Longtown, so doesn't fit your John.

I looked for a John Wright baptism in my Bedlington transcript 1813-1839.  there are 4 of them

John Wright baptised 11 Sept 1814 s/o Thomas and Dorothy
John Wright baptised 31 July 1815 s/o Jane
John Wright baptised 2 June 1825 s/o Mary
John Wright baptised 10 Dec 1826 s/o Thomas and Elizabeth

The census records you have found seem to be more consistant with the last one there.

Hi Janis,

Michael earlier found a marriage for Thomas Wright and Elizabeth Winter in Bedlington, so that ties in nicely

"6 Feb 1826 Thomas Wright >< Elizabeth Winter "
I notice that John/Margaret named two of their children Thomas and Elizabeth. !

  Barbara

I have just found another birth for a Robert Wright in Wales BMD site, only this one born 1866. If this is the correct one, then he would have been about 16years old when he married. I find that may not be correct, but worth a try.
I will send off for the cert and let you know what I find.
That last post by Janis, seems promising.

Thank you both Barbara and Janis

Hi Barbara

I think I may have been going up the wrong tree with the Wrights'. I have just recieved the marriage certificate for Richard Bell and Agnes Wright. It states Agnes Wright's father as John Wright, General labourer. With witnesses Ada Wright, Alfred Bell and Bessie Catherall.
I was going by census info and info from another person who had searched and found that Robert Wright was Agnes father.
Looking on a census for Hawarden 1891, I found two Agnes Wrights one with Father Robert and siblings Arthur and Annie who my husbands aunt recognized the names, Agnes and Richard also had a son Arthur.
The other is for Agnes parents John and Lilah with a sibling Ada. This latter fits with the marriage cert.

I am now totally confused and it looks like I will need to find the parents of John Wright- the general labourer. AAAGGGHHHHH

Do you have any magic solutions?

Hopefully the info that we found may help someone else.

Well here I go again. I will also post on the Flintshire board.
Thanks
