Hi
Could someone look up any birth/baptism/marriage info for Rose Emily Smith for me please? She was born in Hilton Huntingdonshire abt 1884.
Any help would be much appreciated as I've hit a brickwall!

Hi Suz
Thanks for yr reply.
I have a copy of 1911 census, shows as: Rose Emily Smith, age 27, single, domestic servant (Cook), 75 Craven Park Rd, Willesden, born Hilton Hunts.
She gave birth to my Grandad 2 Jan 1912 Willesden workhouse, no father listed on birth cert and is shown as Rose Smith as employed at 75 Craven Park Rd Willesden
I have looked for a birth for Rose, the only one I can find as a possible is Rosa Smith St Ives 1884
It's all a bit of a mystery!

What about this birth reg? ?
freeBMD
Emily Rosa Smith mar qtr 1883 St Ives 3b 303
maybe she went as Rosa/Rose
I think the Rosa Smith you found b 1884 may have been the daughter of Perry and Elizabeth Smith by 1891 they had moved to norfolk and Rose was age 7 b. Warboys Hunts (which also comes within St ives reg dist) Rose was the only child b hunts -all the other children were born Cambs
then there is this 1891 Old post Office (next to hilton hall Farm) Hilton Hunts Robert Smith head M 60 ag lab Sarah wife 53 Eliza daughter 20 Earnest son 17 ag lab Arthur son 13 ag lab Elsworth Cambs Rosa daughter 8 Sidney grandson 6 all except Arthur b Hilton hunts RG12 1241 102 1
most/all of these children had middle names -haven't checked if they sed their middle names as forenames -but to me it looks very likely Rose Emily was Emily Rosa
can't locate her in 1901 though? ??

Thank you so much for that info Suz - I really appreciate your help
Am I right in thinking, if I order the birth cert for Emily Rosa, that it should show me the address she was born at? And if it's Hilton it's def the right one?
Sorry for all the questions! I'm newish to this and it's fascinating but mind boggling
Also, I've been looking online, the Hilton parish records are held at Huntingdon records office - I could go & look there, I wonder if I might find out more info?

I think the Emily Rosa is the best guess -but that it all it is at the moment. You may have luck searching the baptism records.
If you decide to order a certificate then you can specify parents names -if they do not match then you will get most of your money back - less about £3.
The birth cert should show address where she was born- it looks like they were in Hilton most of the time except for the birth of Arthur.
Shall we try to find the birth regs of the other children to see if they had/ used their middle names???
And might it be worth looking the family up in previous census ? There is a gap between Arthur and Rosa - could mean Sarah was maybe second wife - or a child died in between -or they just didn't have any children during those years -of course.?

That's a great idea - I'm going to have a root around now for the other children to see if they did use their middle names, and check the previous censuses as you suggested
Thank you so much for your time, it's really kind of you Suz
