I have a huge favour to ask - North Devon Record Office has a collection of family photos - Charbonnier family of Barnstaple & Lynmouth. If anyone is visiting would it be possible to take some digital photos of these for me? I'm up in the North East and unable to get there in person. The ref. no is: B838 I would be very, very grateful. Thanks, Toni

Hi Toni,
I popped in to NDRO today to assess the job - there are 5 albums & about 20-30 loose photos. I checked that taking digital photos would be OK, so I could undertake this at some time. Would you want all of the photographs or just the portraits (at a rough estimate there would be anywhere between 50 & 100 portraits, but I may be overestimating) or even just a certain period of portraits? By the way I see you are researching Claveys in Somerset - I'm transcribing the Chewton Mendip Census for 1871 at the present & have come across the name quite regularly - any looking up you need?

Hi Steve, thank you so much for checking that out. I didn't realise that there would be so many photos! The portraits I'm particulary interested in - my Charbonnier link is from the 1840's - 1950's, and they were strongly linked to the Morgan family. Anything at all that you have time to do would be great! I just wish I could get there myself, so I'm so grateful for your offer. Thanks again, Toni
p.s I think my Clavey's were from Doulting, Somerset although I'm sure they are interlinked in some way to the Chewton Mendip ones!

Hi Toni, I'll have a go in the next week or so (I work full time, so can't always get to NDRO on a regular basis). I'm not sure how many photos will be involved, so I'll contact you again when I'm in a postion to pass them on - it may be best to copy them onto a disc rather than attempt emailing

Hi Toni I've spent a session at the NDRO today - taken quite a few photos (some have captions by the way) & I will endeavour to download them tonight. I can't guarantee the quality - coditions weren't too good (light glare etc) & my hand can be shaky at the best of times. Anyway, if you would like to send me a private message with your address, I'll post on a disc of what I have. There were many groups with the same personel, but different poses, so I chose a representation of these - but some truly delightful portraits
