Looking for information on Robert Gunn born 1855. His parents were David Gunn and Margaret Gunn. I have no further information about them as yet. He married Barbara Manson from Tongue in 1882 in Altnaharra. In 1881 he was lodging in the house of William Macleod, General Merchant. Barbara was also lodging there. His occupation then was Master Baker. I have three children for this couple: David George Gunn born Nov1883 in Tongue Hugh Mackay Gunn born Dec1884 in Tongue Alexander Gunn born April 1886 in Lairg died 11 days later. His wfie Barbara died in May 1886.

Hi
His birth registration is on the Scotlands People site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. As it was in 1855, it will give more information (about his parents) than the usual ones.
Have you found his death or do you have information on any of the other censuses? I'll check out the 1861.

This could be them on the 1861 - not sure though - Reay and Wick are a bit separate:

Hi there I don't have his birth cert - have his marriage cert to Barbara Manson in 1882. Apart from census for 1881 I have no further information about him. His two surviving children were with their grandparents in 1891 census in Dalcharn Tongue. According to 1881 census Robert was born in Westfield Caithness

Westfield is between Thurso and Reay. i'll have another look on the 1861 but not sure if I can come up with anything better than before. i think maybe the birth certificate would help - parents' marriage dates etc.

A possible death for him in 1927, Thurso, aged 73 - on Scotlands People.

Iaccessed that death but it wasn't him. Wonder where he's gone - emigrated or closer to home perhaps?

found his second marriage - in Glasgow. Married on 21/12/1894 to Mary Mackay, daughter of Hugh Mackay and Barbara Mackay. His address at time of marriage is given as Station Hotel Wick and his occupation looks like Hotel Boots! Getting somewhere now!!

There were hotel boots
I think they were kind of porters/cleaned shoes did the fetching and carrying.
Well, apart from his death, you have most of his life
