missing death. « on: Sunday 18 November 07 11:54 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me find a death please. I have Samuel Mcdonell/mcdonald in kilmonivaig aged 68 in 1871 census, wife margaret aged 68. Samuel does not appear on 1881 census , at least I cannot find him so I presume he died between those 2 dates. I have spent a small fortune on Scotlandspeople site trying to find his death but without success, though I found his wife in 1907 deaths (aged about 100) can anyone offer any suggestions as to what to do next.

Thank you ! This is the right Samuel. I don't know how I missed it! It must have been over-reliance on the accuracy of census info. Not certain how old Sam was now as census says 68 in 1871 and death cert says "about 64". Added to this is the fact that Sam was Catholic and his birth has been difficult to find. Oh well, such are the trials of the family tree sleuth! Again many thanks. Chris

Sorry, Chris. I know very little about them. MonicaLesley does know quite a lot about them. It might be worth PMing her as she's not on the boards very much these days.

Chris
The RC records are held by National Archives Scotland who do keep threatening to digitise them and make available online along with all other non Church of Scotland records but alas not happened yet.
