Hello pancho,

Three items are required when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish.
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as your ancestors were born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. The marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.

Hello Christopher
Thanks for your advice does that mean there are records available even before 1845 ?
Im surmising they married around 1800 as their son John was born around 1809-11.
The info i have is on the poor relief records for John when he was an inmate at Merryflats
poorhouse here in Glasgow I got wifes name Date and place of birth and parents names .
Would i have to make a personal visit to Clones Co monaghan?.
Thanks Again Christopher .

Church records (in some instances) are available for dates before civil registration.
