Doesn't ring any bells. Pannifer is quite a well known surname in Suffolk/Essex. Have you found him on 1841.
Therea a 9yr old in Colchester Essex with a Lydia.

Hephzibah has it exactly - I researched a family in Halifax for an Australian a few years ago, most of the family were in the Wherstead Road, Ipswich area and in Wherstead itself.
