Hi,
I am looking for assistance or guidence in finding out some info on the following person/ family. There is snippets of info here, which may or may not be helpfull.
William Merrill - Born 1802 Circa, Carrington, Bedfordshire, ENG. (have search IGI-familysearch.org and found some possible births, once again Cardington)
- Died 29.12.1897, Royal Hospital, Chelsea, ENG (Death cert obtained no relevent DOB details on it)
I noted when I was first given this info from the Fencible Village here in NZ, that there was no Carrington in Bedford, so I can only assume it was a type-o and was meant to be either Caddington or Cardington. I am from NZ, can someone please assist with my Carrington/Cardington/Caddington problem?
Have posted on the London board for relevent details of death and obtained this info

POSSIBLE ISSUE ?? Big Query Here !
Sarah Merrill Female - Event(s): Birth: 21 JUL 1829 Fort William, , West Bengal, India Christening: Death: Burial: Parents: Father: William Merrill Mother: Charlotte
SOURCE: www.familysearch.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you can see I have much confusion over dob place of birth of issue. When William was meant to be in India for 10 years. Was it common in that time era, for wives to ship back and forth between countries to give birth, Or is it simply that as British subject their births were registered in ENG ??
Does this family show up on any census, from perhaps the years 1841 1847 ?
Please any assistance will be Greatly appreciated.

Hi Del
Assuming that the discharge papers at the National Archives belong to your William MERRILL then he was discharged from the army in 1841 so one would assume that he was back in England at that time thus the later children being born/baptised England. - I don't see any evidence of them travelling back and forth.
Also, if Charlotte was born c1810 then William had been in the army for sometime before they married so it is quite feasible that they could have met on his travels and married anywhere ........... unless Charlotte was also from Bedfordshire then that may narrow it down a bit.
Indexes to some overseas bmd are available online at:
http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/
........... these are the indexes only and you will need to purchase a certificate to see the information therein which may or may not be appertaining to your family if you find mention of the name.
Best wishes
