I am looking for a picture of the head of this school, Harry Harrison and/or his wife Emily Jane also a school mistress there. They were at the school between 1880s and on 1901 census. I presume they would have been there until at least WWI. They may appear on a class picture in someone's parents/grandparents collection. Any suggestions of where to look would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information. However, my computer ability is only average and my patience is very limited and could not figure out how to use the site and also trying to set up an account proved more difficult than it was worth.
However, I do appreciate your interest in my query. Thank you.

Hi - Sorry for delay in replying I have searched the site I mentioned above and could find no mention of Ticknall School but you may find the site below a good starting place
http://www.ticknall.org.uk/
Other resources are mentioned On Genuki - on the Ticknall page http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DBY/Ticknall/index.html
Or try writing to or emailing the libraries http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/derbys_all.html
Most webmasters are very helpful and the libraries so you should get replies. I run a village website for a Notts Village and we have lots of old photos of the school pupils and teachers - they do tend to survive as for each class there were 30 to 40 pupils and 30 or 40 chances of photos being cherished and kept for posterity as a family member was in it.
Good luck
Mog

Thanks for getting back to me. I got in touch with Ticknall Historical Society (as suggested by a lady at the school) and a man sent me a picture with teachers but no identification yet. The lady at the school is putting a card in the village shop for me as well. Record Office has nothing.
Hopefully I will get to the bottom of this soon. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks for replying. Yes I tried Matlock - it was the first place I tried but they knew they would have nothing, and said the school would not be able to help. However, I did contact the school and someone did offer to help.
I will try Derby. Thanks for helping.

Hi, Just to make this clear:-
1. Did you contact the County Record Office at Matlock? They hold original records etc., not Photos.
2. The Local Studies Library at Matlock is a different Office and are more likely to hold photos.
If the answere to 1 is yes, then you need to contact 2.
Ticknell is an Estate Village, National Trust now own Calke Abbey the large Estate House - they may have some info always worth a try. House and Estate was owned by the Harpur-Crew Family, hence endowment by Catherine Harpur.
