Hi whpool,

Looe is certainly a Cornish Parish. (Liskeard Registration District for civil registration) St Kid/t sorry can't think what that may be. Can you please tell us where you got the reference. The only K name in the Liskeard District is St Keyne.

Hi Kris,
Thanks for quick reply.
I've got a John and Eleanor Hocking in the 1861 census for Dover.

John Hocking, b. abt 1797, shoemaker, Cornwall, Looe {it looks like Looe]
Eleanor, wife b. abt 1790, born Cornwall, St. Kit/Nich/Kid?

These are the parents of my g.g. grandmother [Mary Rogers]

thanks,

Ellen Jane HOCKING born 4 Apr 1824, baptised 16 Apr 1824 daughter of John Hocking of East Looe and Elenor his wife who was the daughter of John and Grace SIMONS

Eleanor SIMONS 28 Dec 1790 St Neot parent John and Grace

John SIMONS = Grace OULVER 23 May 1790 St Neot

John HOCKIN 14 Aug 1796 St Martin on Looe Bay parents John and Elizabeth

Hi again whpool,

There was only the one baptism listed at the East Looe Wesleyan Chapel (Methodist) The other baptisms were in the St Martin by Looe Parish Church. Guess they were only in the faith for a short time. I did notice that also in the Chapel some baptisms were listed to William LITTLE of East LOOE St Martin and Mary his wife who was the daughter of John and Elizabeth HOCKING

No rain here, in my part of the State. Been stinking hot, but change in the air the last half hour or so opened up the doors and windows to cool the place down a bit. We could even get a shower (just saw forcast, say possible early morning shower)

Hi Kris,
Sorry I didn't thank you sooner - so thank you for your help.  You remember I said it would 'rain one of these days' - well the fates must have been listening, we've had terrific thunderstorms the last 3 days and finally got some rain [I tend to switch of the comp during a storm and that's why I'm late thanking you].
cheers

You are very welcome whpool,  Grin

Glad you have had some good rain in your part of the country. We did end up with quite a soaking that night ourselves 16 ml I think they said - Everybodies gardens loved it and it has made the weeds easy to pull. Prob a bit late for the farmers since they are reaping.
