« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 12:09 GMT (UK) »

Hello Researchers,
Can anyone confirm the birth & marriage dates of John Armstrong b Canonbie who wed Grizel Scott?
Also, did they produce a family of their own?
Thanks,
Bob

Hello Bob

Can you give some approximate dates, please. I've done a check on the Marriage/Banns for them and can't find any that look likely from 1553 through to 1931 throughout Scotland. There are some John Armstrong/Scott marriages in Canonbie but not to a Grizel/Grace or anything starting with G

Just looked at your other thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,269249.0.html

John was born circa 1802 and died Canada 1867.

I'll have a look for a birth.

The 1801 baptism looks like Torgehenhead, Canonbie not Toddlewood  Huh

Hello Gadget (& thanks)
I've just found some old scribbled notes which suggest John was possibly born in June 1715 in Canonbie & wed about 1739. He may have wed in Midlothian?
These same old notes I made many years ago also show a Christopher Armstrong born about 1680 in Canonbie marrying a girl - surname Little/Liddle?
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Bob

I can't find a marriage but there are quite a lot of baptisms of their children showing on the IGI.

I'll type them up  Smiley

Just to add a detail to the list of offspring of John Armstrong and Grizel Scott recorded by Gadget; all the births were recorded at Harelawhill in the Parish of Canonbie according to the OPR.
