Helen Douglas c1776
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 18:08 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I need help locating information about Helen Douglas.  According to the 1841 census for ROX, SCT, she was born in 1776.  I know she married William Laidlaw and I have a large family tree extending to 1904 but I don’t know her parents.  I found a Helen Douglas born in 1775 to James Douglas and Christian Scott.  According to the Scottish naming tradition, Helen’s eldest daughter was Christian, her eldest son, James (William’s father), her second son, Douglas, etc.
Can anyone please help me prove or disprove the above theory?

Marilyn,
The Helen Douglas born in 1776 is almost certainly the correct lady.
If her husband's father was also named James then it would account for her second son being named Douglas.

Hi,
I don't know if this will help but James Laidlaw, Helen Douglas's eldest son was born Langraw in 1797.  Ref:  Rule Water & its people.  William Laidlaw, her husband was born at Wester Swanshiel, ROX.  This agrees with research I had done by a researcher.
He never found a marriage for me.
