Rankin (ran newsagency) Kilsyth

Would like any info on my G/G grandfather Alexander Rankin born abt 1828 presume Kilsyth married Margaret Comrie 27/7/1852 Kilsyth. Had the newsagency at Backbrae St Kilsyth.

Hi , i was born and raised in Kilsyth,and i remember the Rankins
wee paper shop as it was known,its not that long ago that the shop changed hands, if you write to The Editor,Kilsyth and Cumbernauld
Chronicle, Market Sqaure,Kilsyth,. Scotland. ,asking about the Rankins
i am sure he will have some details for you ,if not he will print a page
and some of the old locals will come forward with some info.there might even be some Rankins or Comries about. best of luck.

Thanks for your reply. While in Scotland in 97 I called into the newspaper and ran an add asking for anyone knowing the Rankins. With no results. I managed to find their headstone in the cemetry which was good.
Hopefully there are some Rankins living in the area that one day I might track down as long long cousins.

Noticed the name Comrie :
          Can't give any details, but  there is/was a family of that name in Denny - not relatives, just people I met . Might be worth checking, if not already known.

My grandparents were Rankin's from Backbrae in Kilsyth.  My cousin in Perth is currently working on the family tree.  If you would like more information, let me know.

My G/G/garndfather was Alexander Rankin
born 1827 Kirkintilloch
married Margaret Comrie 1852
died 1907 at 6 Backbrae Kilsyth
He was a newsagent there.
Would love any info on the family

I've gone over b.c.'s, death, marriage, and the copy of the census, for my grandparents (Henry and Euphemia Rankin) and I can't see any correlation with your relatives.  I will talk to my cousin in Perth (I'm in Canada) and see what she has. 

Have you tried the Government office webpage in Edinburgh?  I downloaded the copies of the certificates and it wasn't very expensive; about $25.00 Canadian for the papers I have.
