Margaret Gregan
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 21:58 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I am looking for a Margaret Gregan born in Westmeath in 1812. I know no more of the Gregan Family except there was a Richard Gregan too.. Margaret married a William Coghlan and spent her life in Manchester dying in a Workhouse in 1885. Does anyone have any connections with the Gregan Family of Westmeath. Can find no marriage for Margaret.

Thanks
Alan

If she married in Ireland you will have to search for a church record of the marriage unless she married after 1845 (of Protestant) or 1864 (if Catholic).
To locate church records you need to know religion and where she lived/might have gotten married, locate the churches in the area and see if their records from that period survive.

Hi I have discussed Margarets marriage with a professional geneologist and he seems to think it is more likely that she married William in England. Though I cant find a marriage for her. Have also had a search of the Westmeath recotds done and no luck there. Was hoping someone might recognize the Margaret and Richard names and dates if they had them in their tree.

BTW they were Catholic
Thank you anyway for your kind advise

Best Regards

The marriage, if in England, could be mis-indexed, especially if the person who was recording the details had trouble understanding Irish accents. If they had any children that might help narrow down the date of a possible marriage.
