Hi, has anyone with access to Ancestry able to help me find the birth of Ernest Robert Brindley in Southampton. According to his marriage certificate he was 21 in 1888 and the census records do tie in with that so I am hoping 1867. If I can get this birth record and send off for the certificate I will definitely be kept busy for the next month or two

Whoops forgot to add it does look like a transcript error on the birth.
The name is Grindley & GRO ref is Vol 2c Page 38, if we assume the 1871 census is right then you could send for cert & ask for a reference check that the father is Thomas.
Transcript errors are very common. It happened to me with a Hebb/Webb & drove me nuts 'till I worked it out.
Hi, thank you both very much for your help. I will send off for the certificate with a reference check for Thomas as the father. Thanks also for the census information.
Hi Are you a Brindley? I know this is an old thread so I hope you get this. Id be interested if you are looking into the Brindley line. My grandfather was Charles Brindley and my Great Uncle was Uncle Bob (Ernest Robert Brindley) who I think was named after his father. I'm sure his father was born in Portsmouth though. I hope you get this and if we are related if you could let me know what you have been able to find out.
