Excuse me if I'm being stupid, but how can you hope to find the parents of someone born 1849 on the 1841 census unless you know who they were?

Do you know his parents names?  Have you found him on the 1851 census when hopefully he will actually be living with his parents?

hello Ruby,

Are you certain the information you have given is correct?

Why would we be able to look up his parents in 1841 when you haven't told us who they are -and Edward is not likely to be with them as he wasn't born until 1849.

Are you certain Edward was born in Wolverhampton - or was his birth registered in Wolverhampton district??

There is an Edward Proffitt age 2 in 1851, age 12 in 1861 b. Willenhall married Sarah A , but his occupation is locksmith (from the age of 12)- parents Silas and Elizabeth.

In 1891 there was a widowed mary Proffitt living next door to Edward and Sarah and she was a grocer?Huh??

Is your information from a marriage cert? If so it will tell us name and occupation of father?HuhHuh?

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the confusion but i just thought he might be showing in the 1841 but Sam mentioning it now it would'nt be till 1851.
All i have in my tree is what i mentioned above plus they had 4 children born in willenhall, Levi B:1875, George B:1878, Silas B:1883 and Gertrude B:1895.
I also have for Sarah Ann Brant with what you have Suz, that Sarah Ann in 1891 was a grocer, widowed.

I hope this helps and sorry again for the confusion.

             Kind Regards

...also -it was Mary Proffitt (widow) who was a grocer and lived next door to Edward and Sarah A in 1891-so I think you may have been misinformed or misread that census?

1891
102 Bloxwich Rd
Willenhall
Mary Proffitt Head W 59 Grocer
Mary E M Proffitt daughter U 18 Dressmaker

and next door

103 bloxwich Rd
Edward proffitt head M 43 Locksmith
Sarah A wife 41
Fanny R Skidmore adopted daughter U 18 Wrapper Up in Warehouse Wednesbury Staffs
Levi Priffitt son 16 Locksmith
George Proffitt son 12 Errand boy
Silas Proffitt son 8
John Brant Boarder 14 works in forge

all (except Fanny R Skidmore) b. Willenhall

RG12 2239 55 10

It's 1871 where Sarah A brant is with mother Mary Brant

1891 it is mary proffitt who is next door
