I've had a Rootschat webcounter on my webpage for ages. Trystan helped me put it there because I didn't understand the instructions - not too good on computerspeak!
It's disappeared. Been gone for a week or so. Anyone have any idea how I get it back? As far as I know, I didn't do anything to make it disappear!
Also, if I were to reinstall it (assuming I could ever work out how!!) would it start counting from the beginning again? Not much point in that!
I have a Mac.
Thanks!

Hi Marie
It went funny about 2 weeks ago but Trystan restored it. i see that you have a non-RC website. it might be that it will have to be re-jigged separately.
All our sites are still down and it could be related

Gosh! That was quick, you two! Thanks, Gadget and downside.
Downside, I have a Mac so it has a different operating system and software, so your specific instructions won't work for me - eg, I don't have a Notepad, or a divided mouse, etc, etc. I think I understand what you mean by the problem, though, so will have a play around.
I am mystified as to why it moved out of place, all by itself! It has been there, quite visible and counting away, for ages! (I'll never understand computers! )
Will post here if and when I get it to work!
Thanks again - I'm always amazed at the speed of replies on here!

Hi Marie
I read your title and got all excited thinking the websites had reappeared
Then I read Gadget's reply saying you have a non-RC website and my excitement deflated
Oh well, I hope you are able to restore your counter, it does seem odd that it has moved itself but sometimes these things happen, you might have amended something else on the page and things just seem to shift around.

I'm still fairly sure that it might be something to do with our server not being operational though, Kerry.
I'd wait to hear from Trystan before I did any tinkering, Marie - just in case

Having just gone and read the website tutorials and realised it is an RC webcounter I think I agree Gadget, I bet it is all tied up with the server problem that has affected our websites and I think I would leave it Marie till Trystan has our sites up and running again.
Due to be the weekend I think.
At least that way you can eliminate or otherwise a reason

downside,
Text editor - yes, that's the phrase I was looking for! Yes, I have one of those and know how to use it in a basic manner. I do see what you mean and could try to do something along the lines you suggest.
But Gadget and Kerry - yes, I am sure you are right, I will wait before I start tinkering inexpertly in case I make a worse mess!
Trystan or Bob, if you see this thread, could you please advise - it would enlighten all of us who have posted here!!!
MarieC
PS I haven't touched the page for several months - was about to make some changes, but truly, I've done nothing to make it disappear!!

I don't know an exact answer, so I can only guess.
and my guess is - as others have also guessed - it's to do with the crash of the RootsChat webspace server. The RootsChat counters are stored on this server as well (counter.rootschat.net). So even if Maries's web site is on another server, if the Rootschat server is down, then the hit-count just isn't available, till Trystan has finished fixing the RootsChat server.

ps.
It is well known, that the RootsChat web-counter isn't programmed optimally, but - as a rule - it works !!
So if Marie hasn't changed anything, and it worked before, then I don't think that that's the problem

Thanks Bob!
Knew you'd be here before too long!!
I shall wait until the server is working properly again - didn't realise it wasn't, until I posted this query! - and then see what happens. If it still isn't there, I may then have to fiddle. But cross my heart and hope to die, I haven't done anything to the webpage for quite a while! And yes, the counter worked beautifully, up to the time that it disappeared!

It's all too much for this non-techo, downside! I am going to wait till the server is AOK again and then I shall take my courage in both hands and fiddle as you suggest. If browsers are going to be quirky, then my goodness, they have got the better of me!
