Hello,
Are there any local records which could be searched for my GGGrandfather, William Bailey, to find out what he was doing in Newcastle under Lyme in the 1840s and where he was living? He was in his 20s then and went to Liverpool to marry his wife Emily in 1849

You can look for him on the 1841 census, other than that I don't think there is anythong else you could look at. What was his occupation and when/where was he born?

Now you can help me. I can look in the 1871 Census on Ancestry.co.uk. If I do as you suggest and post a look-up request, will anyone who answers have access to something other than the 1871 Census?
