Hi Wozzle
I checked him out on the 1851 and it showed Duffus so I checked the 1841 and got the same entry as you
Nothing on the IGI for him with those parents

Yeh that is the marriage might have to buy M/C to make sure his dad is William, dont want to go down wrong path as it gets all to expensive. Would just love to find his brothers and sisters you would think that there would be some no T.V. back then.Liz

I'm not that familiar with Scottish marriages for that period but you need to check if parents names were shown for that period as it is pre-1855
Have a look at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Hello Liz,
I'd take Carole W's advice. Then post the results here.
Log on to and register at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - £6 minimum spend. Do NOT buy certificates - they're not needed. With the info you've got, you'll get a first time hit. Down load and save an 'extract' - which gives exactly the same info as a 'cert' - will cost £1.20 or 6 credits. That leaves sufficient for 4 further downloads of siblings or parents - if you find them.
The extract will or should give both parents names and mothers maiden name - also fathers occupation. Good luck. With both parents names you can - or the board can, use the IGI to get the info you want - that's assuming that 1855 the family registered all births. Regards, Steve :O)

Hi Liz, Because the marriage was in 1847, you wont get the parents names from the entry...I would try for James Walker's death certificate as you have the approx. year and place. Usually the parents names are noted but it all depends on who was giving the registrar the details of the deceased.
http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp has James Walker married to Ann Smith in c1846 and died 30/4/1891 at Torehead, Pluscarden.
