Hi, I have lost my 2nd Great Grand Uncle Peter Laing, he is a Weaver and married Ann Younger 2/11/1847 in Alloa, they are on the 1851 census with their one year old daughter mary Ann at Meiklejohns Vennel, Alloa.
Peter born c1826 Fossoway and Ann c1829 Alloa.

Hi there - I stumbled on this thread by accident.
Meiklejohn's Vennel is so called as it ran alongside Robert Meiklejohn's brewery in Alloa.
He moved to another site in 1852 and leased the premises to George Younger & Sons - it was sold to them in 1871 and became known as the Candleriggs Brewery, eventually becoming the third largest in Scotland.
It may be that Ann Younger was a member of this famous brewing family.

Hi i also have younger as my middle name named after my grandmother who is from the younger family alloa, started search as interested in who's who as i don't have much info, there was a c j edwards his life story can be purchased what a character he was i know it is the same family because the brewery connection gran spoke a lot about that. Jan,
If you could be a bit more specific about your gran, somebody may be able to help.
First name and date of birth etc., etc. would be a good place to start.
