I don't see any George Read (that spelling specifically) born in Lymington 1855-7 on the 1861 census. Reed, Reid and Reade don't show anything at all for that timeframe.
There is a George William Read showing on Free BMD Dec qtr 1857 New Forest (which includes Lymington) 2b 501. I think you already have most of the possible references for other George Reads born in Hampshire around that time.
Are you absolutely sure that Lymington is the only place to look for your Reads? I only say this as I had a 2 x gt grandfather who used "Lymington" and "Milford"(-on-Sea) interchangeably on census returns (as did his sisters) and when I bit the bullet and tried to trace the family through microfiche available from the LDS, it turned out his family lived in the tiny village of Everton in the chaplery of Pennington near to but not part of Lymington! I still only have the sketchiest idea of what these terms actually mean in ecclesiastical terms but it might be worth considering searching these records if you can, particularly if your George Read moved away from the area, as people tend to generalise where they are from to the nearest town anyone might have heard of.
i expect some are fed up of reading about the reads, name, i have a marriage cert for my g grandfather george read, but failed to trace a birth cert for him. george was born st marys southampton in 1856 other brothers and sisters were pennington or milford. i am hoping to send off for a birth cert of one of the other children then i can confirm the name of his mother
also my other gg grandfather i have not found a birth cert for and he was born in 1863/ 1865 aldershot i believe his father is george john sandy the same and he may have a sister mary.as yet not found the family ,so i could trace the mothers name maybe on a birth cert of another family member. hope you can follow this, thank you for your post anyway. ann

Hi Ann, I am sure you've found some of the other brothers or sisters on Free BMD, but if not, why don't you order the one for Harry READ, born in 1851? It appears to be ref. Mar 1851 Lymington Vol. 8 P.204
I believe that he is one of George's brothers, which should help you with the mother's name (unless the father married again in between).

Funny coincidence - that tiny village of Everton is where I grew up! It seems our ancestors didn't move around much in those days!
