Lost Births? Help Please.Completed Thanks
« on: Friday 23 November 07 23:02 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for the Birth records for John Hayton and sister Willhelmina of Sunderland.

John's  marriage cert. in 1937 states his age as 23 yrs.(1914)
I think that this is not true as his bride was just 19yrs !
His father given  as John Fawcett Hayton (Boiler Maker/ Riveter)who's Army records I found on Ancestry.

John F. enlisted on 11th Oct. 1915 and gave details of his Next of Kin . Wife Ethel Jarvis and their marriage  on 25th Feb. 1910 at Register Office, John St., Sunderland..

Home address(1915) as 13, Ketch St, Southwick on Weir, Sunderland.
Children, Willhelmina age 3 11/12  b. Heaton Sunderland and John age 5 8/12
b. Southwick on Weir.

None of these dates seem to make sense and I just can't find the records for either children.

Hope someone can help Please.

Spring,

Maybe this is one(from FreeBMD) to think about:

Births Mar 1910

HAYTON  Wilhelmina     Tynemouth  10b 307

I wondered about that as it is such an odd spelling.

Perhaps I'd better get John and Ethels Cert. to see is she came from the Tyne.
Can get complicted !!!

 I wouldn't have thought there would be TOO many Wilhelminas around..unlike your John;

~~~~~~~~
Births Dec 1907   (>99%)
~~~~~~~~

HAYTON  John    Sunderland  10a 636

~~~~~~~~
Births Jun 1908   (>99%)
~~~~~~~~

Hayton  John James J     Sunderland  10a 890

And i guess there could be more !

You could always try for the Wilhelmina certificate but using the parents names as references.........

Thanks Kaz,

i did a search on 1837, (don't feel inclined to get more credits) and the Mothers dont match!!

I am now wondering if the entry on the Army records were incorrect for John and he was not 5yrs 8/12 but 1yr. 8/12. which would jell with his marriage entry.

Also the names were listed as Willhelmina first and John second.

At least this is making me do some lateral thinking!

Will have another search tomorrow.

Hi
The marriage between John Fawcett Hayton and Ethel Jarvis was 1911 (not 1910) March Qtr 1911 Sunderland Reg District Vol 10a Page 832. If the ages of the children are correct then they were both born before the marriage. I have found a likely birth for Wilhelmina which fits her age.
Wilhelmina H Jarvis born March Qtr 1911 Sunderland Reg District Vol 10a Page 713. It might pay to doublecheck the page number as it was difficult to read. My guess is that Wilhelmina was born just weeks before the marriage and I wouldn't be surprised if the H stood for Hayton.
I haven't found a likely birth for John but if his age on his fathers enlistment is correct then its likely to be Jarvis. It might pay to get John & Ethel's marriage certificate in order to see if Ethel was married previously. Her fathers surname would hopefully confirm as to whether Jarvis was her maiden name. FreeBMD is not complete for each of the quarters around this time.

Andy,

Thankyou so much, absolute genius!!

So pleased to be able to fill in the ancestors of a relative by marriage. She felt left out at a family gathering , when some of us were sharing our researches !!
This info. will be a great Christmas Present for her.

I'll certainly get the Cert.
And thanks again.
