Hi Penninah,

Have you thought of looking for the marriage of Martin and Mary on www.familyhistoryonline.net?  It is a pay per view site but has marriages in Tarrant Gunville.

Hi there!

Martin and Mary were not married in Tarrant Gunville Jan, i have looked within a 15 mile radius for possible marriages on the dorset opc and the only thing i have come across is a Martin Amis witnessing someone else's marriage. Martin's middle name was Frampton. So i guess i need to find where that family come from! I'm asuming that Frampton will be the mothers maiden name.

Hi Liz, I'm glad it paid off for you! I have a more recent Chase in my tree. The biggest problem i have found with the name Penninah is the mistranscibing of it in the census, well all records actually! Did your Penninah go to London with her parents? Or perhaps for employment?
I have alot of my family ending up in the Fulham/Greenwich area c1875 to work at the docks.

And thanks crozier, not sure if there is a connection there but i have been to Bower-chalke in the hunt for a friends family tree i did! Its a very beautiful place!

Many thanks

Curious! "My" Peninah travelled quite a lot. In the 61 census she was at Milton Abbas as a farm servant. 71 Trowbridge Wiltshire. 81 Monckton Combe "Cook at Vicarage.". By 91 she was working for the same family at Westerham, Kent. 1901 census found her in Dorchester "living on own means". She died in Gloucester in 1905
One of her nephews, at least, travelled to Greenwich for work as a furnace stoker in a paint factory, although some of the family remained in Dorset.

Hi there Crozier,

I've had a quick look at your Penninah and i think there is a strong possibility that she may be a relation of mine. Her mother Elizabeth Burden was born in Tarrant Rushton. I can't find the marriage of her parents Samuel and Ann. Have you come across it?

Regards

Hi there,

Ok...
Elizabeth and Charles married November 16 1820 in Tarrant Rawston (by banns) So likely there are more children!
Elizabeth was born Tarrant Rushton and baptised there on January 24 1796 to Samuel Burden and Ann Rogers so far there is a brother William and a sister Ann.
Mother Ann born Tarrant Rushton 1772 she married Samuel there on October 1 1795. Samuel was born Wimborne Minster.
Ann Rogers parents were Frampton Rogers and Ann. The father and grandfather are both 'Frampton' the earlier marrying in East Stoke, Dorset , He married a Mary Davies there in 1735. I have as you see from my earlier message on this thread got framptons! My Martin Amis had the middle name 'Frampton'! Now i just need to find these Framptons! I think that will be where the Penninah's come from!

Regards

Looking at Tarrant Rawston baptism there is as follows;-

James baptised Aug 22 1825
Mary Ann baptised March 9 1826
Susannah Sep 7 1834 and
Ellen Sep 25 1841

All to Charles and Elizabeth King. Charles go's from a labourer to a shepherd.
