Hi Geoff,
I had a look after and there is a Barnby and others - outside of Newark. I suppose all similar.
My son used to do a swim at Barnby Dun but that is near Doncaster.

Hi heywood

It looks like the Barnby in the Willows that you found is close to Newark.

Thanks all - it is appreciated.
I guess I will have to go with Barnby whichever it may be.
The lady also has a very unusual surname
Mahinore ?

It looked for all the world like mahmore to me...but I think it may be Masimore, due to the dotting of an I, which made me see the lower draw back on the letter before to be a script "s".......J.J.

Thanks All
Yes I also took a look at the ancestry transcription but as JJ says there is a dot from an i
I was just hoping the surname may be familiar to someone
Although the transcriber for this area in Notts was pretty adventurous with some of his spellings
I am starting to wonder if it was Millner or Malliner or Mallinore or something that sounded like that.

there is an Elizabeth Mutimore born 1841 Coddington Notts (near Newark) with parents Joseph and Emma in 1851 but she is in South Wingfield Derbys. Her mother and some siblings are born Barnby Notts. Am trying to find her in 1841 to check the spelling.

can't find 1841 but the family are Mortimore in 1861 - no Elizabeth with them. Never thought of that name  Grin

Thanks Heywood
I think it is perhaps Mutimore - but what an unusual name - have never heard that one before.  I have checked out freebmd and searched for any record showing Mutimore and there are a few - about 15 BMDs - mostly Chesterfield and the one you mentioned in Belper.  I think the 1851 family you found must also be them - the Barnby connection is uncanny although the counties have moved!
South & North Wingfield are not too far from where she was a servant in 1861 in Selston Notts.
Thanks for all your help.
For my purposes I am going with Mutimore - rare though it is !

Family Search has a Mutermore family - acouple of variations - baptisms at North Wingfield at the right time- same parents.
Dad was born Lincolnshire and as I said Barnby Notts. The site I saw earlier seemed to indicate that it is on the border - so since there's nothing better- stick with that.

goodnight
