Researching John, Thomas and Peter Flett who settled in Gunnedah, NSW, Australia. Can't find an arrival date or parents. Have come across Nichol and Jean Flett with children of that name born in the 1840's, Harray. If there is a link would like information if any on the family. Huh

hi loron

welcome to roots chat  Smiley

do you have any idea of the ages of john ,thomas, and peter flett ?
whats your connection to these names?
is harray a place name in orkney?
have come across these names in a family on the 1841 census
any death certificates for them which might reveal parents names?

nicol christened 22/8/1813 in harray, son of nicol and sibylla linklater

as it turns out the nether house in the 1891 is now run by the linlater's.

Thanks Ev and Joekar. I was on the right track. Now to see when they left for Australia and on what vessel.
I had the births of Thomas John and Peter and parents marriage from LDS site. It appears the three boys married in the Gunnedah area to three sisters in the 1880's.
I am researching for a friend who is a descendant of Thomas. It could be that the other children came and settled in a coastal region of NSW. Am following up on this.
Thomas' marriage records in NSW only give spouses names and no ages or birth places, or parents. Strange for NSW.
Thanks for your help.Ron

Hi Ron
My name is John Flett Carpenter and my Fletts arrived in Williamstown, Victoria, Australia, in the 1850's, from Harray, Orkney, and I have just spent a week in Orkney taking photos of all the old houses - Furso, Garth, etc. I can trace my family back to Thorkel Flett in the 12th century, with quite a few gaps, but can go back directly to Robert Flett of Bea, who passed on the mill of Russland to 2 of his 7 sons, and which enables me , through sasines, etc to make the connection. I will gladly swap gedcoms with you. I currently am living and worlking in Saudi Arabia but will be going home to Melbourne to visit my Mum, the last of the Fletts in Williamstown, from 18 december to 27th December. My email address is jcarpenter46@yahoo.com.au
Regards
