Thankyou Wozzle for this lookup - much appreciated - 1891 census.
I was hoping that my great grandfather, Richard Telford, would be on the list at the Hawick Combination Poorhouse, and his wife Margaret.
He died 9 Nov 1892 while Governor of that Poorhouse (Ref: his death certificate) and I have been trying to discover when he began in that job.
I know that he was not there in the 1881 census - another man was listed as the Governor at that time.

Thankyou Wozzle. That has solved a puzzle. Therefore, Richard Telford was in the position of Governor for a very short time, before he died on the job of a heart attack. Prior to the Governor's job, he was a policeman with the Galloway and Borders police from the 1860's.
