I have not actually put my Uppards to bed. and I have taken on board all the facts I have been given, and have used them. I do know that Alfred is still at large, but until I hear from Newcastle, I can't do much more about it.

so why do you keep saying that 'the marriage cant be found' ?
when its clearly got a GRO refn, and also an LRO refn ....
coupled with the ages and PoBs of the couple on the later census ?

I know we have 'found the marriage', it is the fact
that I cannot get the certificate - yet.
As I have just said, I am waiting to hear from Newcastle, in fact, I have just e.mailed them again, and if they do not contact me in a couple of days, I will give them a ring.

At Last, I have the marriage certificate for ALFRED UPPARD
married to MARTHA JANE LONGLANDS June 21st 1873.
Both give 'full age' ( which I believe is 21) and this now makes the birth date for Alfred 1852, not 1844.
His occupation works out right (bricklayer) and his father's name John Uppard and his occupation GROOM.
Also one of the witnesses was his brother, Harry Uppard.
They were married at the Parish Church in the County of Northumberland, and lived at a place called JESMOND.

So I think we have now concluded that ALFRED and THOMAS were two different people?
Have I now sorted this out?? Its been so long that I have forgotten quite how the saga went, albeit there is plenty of info on our pages of correspondence.

Hi again
Have just found out where the problem lies.
We could not find Alfred Uppard on the 1881 1891 or 1901,
and it was wondered if he used the name Thomas?
On checking your previous replies, I am now going to look in the name of 'Pippard' on the above mentioned census returns as you informed me that he was there with Martha J.
I think I jumped the gun a bit.
Will be back in touch, before hopefully before 2008.

I have now found Alfred Uppard on the 1881, 1891 and 1901,
and totally agree with the findings. He obviously changed his occupation from bricklayer in 1881 to Hall Keeper in 1891 and Caretaker Mason in 1901.
I am happy with this BUT
you asked me in an earlier message if I was happy with the 1871 finding of the chap in Oving Occ. Porter, and you gave me the ref : RG10-597-65-30, St Saviour District, 121-123 Boro High Street, WELL, I can't find it 
You posted the 1871 info on 3rd December
Would you happen to have a note of whether it was Thomas or Alfred, and was the spelling of the name UPPARD or was it some other spelling.
I have tried every which way to find this entry on the 1871,
can you still help on this one??
As far as it goes, I am looking for Thomas on the 1871 as I now have Alfred on the 1871.

Hi Everyone
Many thanks for all your help.
I now have Thomas on the 1871 albeit Hupperd,
and I am now happy with both Thomas and Alfred and their census returns.
Can we safely now put those two men to bed 
What a long trek this has been, and without your help, ALL of you, I would never have done it.
