Abingdon PRs

I'm still hitting my head against the brick wall which is Sarah Sculler.

She married in Basildon, Berks in 1693 but I can find no trace of her baptism - and the name Sculler is also a bit hard to find.

I've just found a will on the National Archives site for a James Sculler of Abingdon in 1646. It's too early to be my Sarah's father but I wondered if anyone had access to the Abingdon PRs and could look to see if there are any other Sculler entries which might help me locate Sarah. I wish!!

Hi Jill,

    Ive had a look through PRs for Abingdon but have had no luck with the name in

    BMDs. I had a quick look on ancestry and found in 1851 Richard  Sculler b abt 1823

    Almondsbury Gloucs. He is a servant living there. Hope this helps.  Smiley Smiley

1823 is a bit too late for a connection to my Sarah but I suppose it's possible that the hub of Sculler family life is/was in Gloucester!  Undecided

I'll get the map out and see how far it is from Berks.

Still on the trail of Sarah then?

I presume that you have the details from her marriage as listed in the BVRI?  There are quite a few Scullers listed but most from Scotland.

I had a wander through the IGI this afternoon and note that there are a number of Oxfordshire parishes directly across the River Thames from Basildon that are not listed - I looked via Hugh Wallis - I wonder if you have been able to check those parishes for Scullers?

I've noticed that it seems to be a Scottish name - I suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility that she might have moved all that way! I'll have to investigate that further.

Yes, I think I've checked most of the nearby Oxon parishes. Having said that, she'll probably turn out to be from the few I haven't been able to check.

I reurn to my brickwalls every now and then to see if I - or someone else - can get divine inspiration, but it ain't working with Sarah Sculler!!  Roll Eyes
