Hi Prue I think it highly likely that the second Hepzibah belongs to the same couple. Widowed Lydia is living in Sharnbrook with her son Smith Bailey in 41/51 - this would suggest that she is the Lydia Smith that married James Bailey in 1802. As well as 2 Hepzibahs they had 2 Smiths (or possibly 3 as the Smith living with her is only 25 in 51 and the last Smith Bailey baptism was in 1817). However it is possible James married again to a second Lydia but I can only see the one marriage. I'm sure someone can help you out with relevant deaths. And someone already has! Jan

Hephzibah Bailey age 16 buried at Sharnbrook on 27 Nov 1819. Smith Bailey age 1 buried 10 Sept 1816 Smith Bailey age 6 mths buried 6 Feb 1818
There's no James Bailey buried in Sharnbrook. The closest is James Bailey 70 on 21 Apr 1826 at Souldrop which is only a mile from Sharnbrook, but he looks a tad on the old side
John - was he a widower on marriage in 1802, and was he of Souldrop? (Actually I think you'd better forget my Souldrop theory. The Elizabeth who married James there wasn't buried until 1823 age 78, so it looks as though the James age 70 was the one who married in 1774)

You're welcome
You can forget the 1777 birth. That's just a guess by the LDS member who submitted the entry. If they don't know the baptism details they deduct 25 years from the marriage date if its the groom, or 21 years if it's the bride, to arrive at the birth year, which can be hopelessly inaccurate. To compound the problem they also put the parish of the marriage as the birthplace of the party - this too is is usually wrong.

Hi Prue Sadly the 1841 doesn't give marital status. I've had a look for James too but can't see him. What about Hepzibah, would she have been married by 1841? There is a Hepzibah Bailey but she is 30, she is living with a Joseph age 60 in Souldrop. Jan

Hi, I have Hepzibah married to Joseph Whiting 2nd June 1852 in Olney . I think this is right as on Emily Whiting's marriage certificate she gives Joseph Whiting as her father, I suspect he is her grandfather as her mother Elizabeth is unmarried. On a very faint page of 1841 Census I think it shows Hepzibah as Hessey age 20. I have not found her in 1851. Still searching, thanks for helping. Cheers, Prue

Prue, That ties in with the 1861 census, in Olney, Bucks
RG9/874 Folio: 57 Page: 26.
Joseph Whiting age 30 born Horton Northants, married to Hepzibah age 39 born Sharnbrook, with children Thomas 7, James 3 & John 1
On the 1851 in Olney is Joseph Whiting, unmarried age 20 born Gt Houghton (which is different to, but very close to Horton) - he's a lodger - along with John Whiting age 22.

The 1841 taken from the CDrom set shows her quite clearly as Hepsey Bailey 20 FS born in county, in the household of Joseph Eaton, 65, although looking at the image on Ancestry it's faint but still quite discernible as Hepsey
