Mary Ann is listed as daughter "Daur", but I think she was probably a step-daughter, unless it was just a very late marriage.

there doesn't seem to be a relationship listed for George.

Presumably Priscilla was a widow when she married William

FREEBMD have a marriage listed in 1842q4 in Wangford (according to the notes this district includes Beccles)  for a William Read in which a Priscilla Barber is one of the potential spouses.

Hi meles,

Looks like Mary Ann Barber(?) dau (possibly Priscilla's daughter) but stumped on George.  Is there an occupation for him?  Could he be an apprentice or lodger?

Thank you Dudley. Yes - that sounds convincing.

Nanny - George is an Ostler.

Name of street anyone?

Hi meles,

Blyburgate Street?

Does George being an ostler fit in with William's occupation?

Oh! Just seen this - it did not pop up in my e-mail for some reason...  Undecided

Thanks for your input.

Jan: It does, I suppose - he was an Innkeeper. Would a son do ostling (does such a word exist?), or would that be left to an employee?

Tony: Thanks for that.

Hi meles,

Might be more convenient if a son did the "ostling"; keep it in the family so to speak or could be an ousider.

My publican had some of his family working in the pub for him.

So not uncommon, then. Hmm - more work needed here...

Well, it's going to be a wet and windy weekend here, so that'll keep me occupied!  Wink
