Thomas Wanklin born in Herefordshire in 1740s

Hi,
I'm trying to trace Thomas Wanklin who lived in Gladestry in Wales in the mid to late 1700s but I believe came originally from Herefordshire. He was married in 1762 in Llanfihangel Nant Melan and the marriage documents state that he had the permission of his parents so he must have been under 21 at the time. This means he was probably born in the 1740s.

A witness at his marriage was called James Wanklin. This was presumably either a brother or his father. The only Thomas Wanklin I have found in Herefordshire so far was born in Kingsland and would have been 14 at the time of the 1762 marriage. While it is not inconceivable that he could have married at 14 I think it a little unlikely.

If anyone has come across a Thomas Wanklin who was born in Herefordshire in the 1740s I would be very grateful if they could pass on the details to me.

i have come across wanklins in the gladestry area but can't remember where . i know this cos  my partner used to work with two lads of that surname - i have a feeling it maybe on the igi batch nos site - but it may have been somewhere else as i am researching my family in that area and have several different surnames researching in the area if i come across it again i will contact you

Hi Vic1,

Thanks for replying. I have quite a bit of info on the Wanklins of Gladestry. Thomas seems to have been the founder of the family in Wales but until I can find out where he was born I can't trace the family back any further. The main branch of the family is centered in Herefordshire so I a convinced he came from there but I need to pin him down. But thanks for taking an interest.  Smiley

i actually live in hereford and have my roots in north herefordshire so if you think i can be of further assistance  shout - can't get to records office though as i work same hours unfortunately .
