About a year ago, my wife and I traced her family tree. It lead to a shocking event on 11 Aug 1921 where Gustav(e) Koch murdered his wife Isabella. We have tracked down some newspaper entries for this in the Scotsman. The murder was in Grangemouth. He returned home after unsuccesfully searching for work (his interment during WW1 may have gone against him). He strangled his wife and hanged himself!
We have two queries. Are there local papers of that period with searchable records Either realtime or online).
What might have happened to the children. We only have two recorded, Kit's grandfather and his sister Janet.
Thanks for your time.
Simon and Kit.

They may carry out a search for you but I'm not sure whether they charge or not.
If you're willing to wait a wee while - I'm hoping to get into the Library between now and Christmas so I could have a look for you.
Off at a slight tanget here - but there is a Kpl. T. H. KOCH, Polish Forces (58th Operational Training Unit) buried in Grandsable Cemetery in Grangemouth. He died on the 15th May 1941 aged 28. I have a photo (not a very good one) of the gravestone and you're welcome to a copy if it's of any interest.
Should you want a copy of the photo, send me a PM with your personal e-mail address.
Alternatively, if you visit http://www.scottishwargraves.co.uk and key in KOCH to the search field, you'll be directed to the thread for Grandsable Cemetery, then it's just a case of scrolling till you find the photo.
Thanks for the welcome to Rootschat, like many I guess I have been led here thanks to the recent Radio 4 programmes.
Thank you for the information and the kind offer. Kit and I plan to visit Falkirk in Easter 2008 in order to do some research ourselves and see withour own eyes the area in which her family settled. Please do not put yourself out on our account, but if you have a few minutes for a quick look that would be appreciated and may give us a starting point. We'd be particularly interested in the names of the children and what might have happened to them. Thank you in anticipation of any time you spend on this but please don't do anything to the detriment of your other activities.
The polish gravestone was quite interesting, and what a fantastic website. We have lost track of four of the children that the Scotsman reported as belonging to the dead couple. TH Koch may well be one of them. The family believes it's roots to be in the area East of Hamburg where the Polish Border now lies. It is a common name in the area, being Germanic for Cook. TH Koch's date of birth could put him as a child of Isabella and Gustave but there is no real connection as far as we know. There are plenty of Koch's in UK at that time and as a serving soldier I believe it is unlikely that Kpl Koch would be posted so close to his home.
