Elizabeth Baxter of Westmeath, b. abt 1830
« on: Sunday 02 December 07 18:34 UTC (UK) »

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Baxter (born abt 1830, in Ireland). I always thought she was born in Dublin but have recently found (in New Orleans obituraries) that she was a “native of Westmeath.”

Facts:
- I know Elizabeth Baxter was born in Westmeath Ireland between 1828 and 1831.
- I know that Elizabeth Baxter married John Clarke in Liverpool in May 1849.
- The next records found for Elizabeth Baxter Clarke are in New Orleans LA USA, where she had two sons (b. 1851 and 1856) and twin girls (Feb 1863); their names were Thomas, John B., Margaret and Mary Clarke. Margaret was my Grandmother, and in New Orleans, she married Patrick McGough of the Castlebar McGoughs.
- Elizabeth's 1849 marriage record in Liverpool states that her father was Denis Baxter and he was a teacher.
- Elizabeth Baxter (my great gm) was strongly RC. and all children married in Irish RC families.

I have extensive census records and marriage records for the children, but very little information on Elizabeth Baxter.

Any information on the Baxter family of Westmeath Ireland would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron
