I wonder if somebody with access to the relevant records could check something for me.
I'm looking for George Verney, born 1790. He was married in Winslow in 1813 and for now I have to assume he was born in Winslow.
Would somebody be able to check the 1790s and see if he is listed? If not I'll then turn my attention to the Buckinghamshire villages as we know he was definitely local.
Thanks,
Mark

Found the marriage of George & Frances . As you say both of the parish. George leaves his mark Frances signs her name. John Griffin witness with what looks like John Verney as well. Frances bapt in Winslow Sep 26 1792 ( no parents given) George bapt 22 July 1790 Winslow (no parents given)
A John Verney bap in 1792 again no mention of parents. I looked through marriages for the village but could not see one for Verney prior to the baptism.
Interesting the name being Verney though as the Verney family owned Claydon House just up the road, however prob unconnected as George did not sign his own name.
Very many thanks for checking all that information, really useful. Whilst the lack of parents is a bit disappointing it does at least tell me they were from Winslow and it would look like a couple of siblings are listed. Something to go on. I also didn't have the baptism dates. So thank you for all that. I hope to get down to Buckinghamshire this year to do some digging in the records.
There is or isn't a connection with the Verneys of Claydon, depending on who you talk to! I am inclined to go with the view of a guy I spoke to at Leicester University who had researched the Verneys of Great Horwood back to Medieval times and who believed there most likely was no connection between Claydon and my Verneys, unless it dated back to the 13th or 14th centuries. Either way, most likely lost in the mists of time. Ironically a connection was discovered via another family, the Roads, with my 10xgreat grandfather being estate bailiff to Sir Edmund Verney for a time. Not quite the same though!
Thanks again,
Mark
