I am struggling with a plethora of Powells in Hereford, and Eardisley in particular.
I am looking for the birth details of James Powell, stated in the 1881 census to be a farmer of 50 acres at St Margaret's Farm, Woodseaves and aged 29 years. Married to a Sarah Ann.
He had 3 sons at that time, James Frederick, Albert John and William H.
I think that he married Sarah Ann Barber in 1874.
He was the son of another James Powell, shown as a miller in the 1871 census.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The IGI has a James Powell, bpt. Eardisley, 2 Nov 1851. Parents James Powell and Caroline.
It's a controlled extraction and the only one showing.

Added - not sure because Caroline was a widow in 1871

I've just found the bit about th widow in Eardisley. I can't see the 1871 that Bob mentions. There's also a James and Caroline in Ledbury

Just wondering if the miller was from his marriage cert Can't find them, same ones coming up as you. The Ledbury father is a farmer and landowner

Tati
Just returned and have been looking for anywhere remotely like Wrexford
On the 1881, he's down as Hereford. it's the same man- Sarah's birthplace seems constant but he was a farmer of 50 acres then and a labourer in London in 1891

I remeber that there was a slump in agriculture but it looks a bit drastic
