Marriage help?
« on: Thursday 06 December 07 11:29 GMT (UK) »

Hi

I wonder is it possible to look up marriages in the parish records to find a father's name?  Or is the only way possible through buying the wedding certificate?

I would like to try and see if it is possible before I buy the certificate and find out I have been tracing the wrong family again!!!!

If it is possible, would anyone be able to help me by looking in the records office for me please?

Many thanks

If you know the date and place of marriage, you can always contact the local register office to check the details before you pay for the certificate, they don't wish to give you the wrong cert any more than you want to buy one. Most registrars are very helpful, although they usually won't tell you things you don't know, only confirm what you do!

As to parish records, if you'd like to post full details, names, date, place etc, someone will probably be able to help

if the marriage was before registration then a fathers name may not necessarily appear in the PR only the witnesses

Thanks for your replies, I will give the first one a go, the marriage took place in 1866.

Kind regards Smiley
