Don't you find that just so frustrating?
I hope that some day you tie up the ends. Have you thought about tracking John Dobson and family in 1881 and 1901 just to see if they come up close to the family again?
Might be worth a try.

can you find a Nellie Clemmitt aged 9 born Darlington on this census - might be Northallerton but I'm not sure. She was missing on the family census but is on the 1901 census.
