Hello again Spacot

There is no urgency, but I would be very grateful to you, if when you have the time, it was possible for you to look for the names of Young and Downie in Spott.

Thanks

[Hi Dava57
I have looked all my MI`s  no trace of your family, the closest I have found is a birth in Innerwick of Martin Sibbet 3 mar 1752 son of William Sibbet merchant and distiller in Thorntonloch and his wife Elisabeth Scot, one of the witnesses was a Martin Sibbet from Dunbar.  Hope this helps,  lots of other Sibes in the MI`s if you want a list of names dates and place let me know
Lynn
Hi Lynn,
Another favour please when you have time.
Bess / Elspet Sinclar / Sinklar (various spellings)
Wife of William Sives / Sibbet / Sivice (lots of variations of this).

I've also posted here

Happy New Year to you and many thanks for previous look ups.

Thanks for that Lynn,
Very possible the Sibes are related.  I've come across a ridiculous amount of spelling variation of this name which isn't making life easy for me tracing family.
A list of the Sibes would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking.  My reason for asking was that one of my forebears Jean/Jane Young was born in Spott 1805 to Alexander Young and Anne Downie. I haven't found the marriage of her parents, unless there was forename change - Alexander Young married Margaret Downie 1791, recorded in Spott OPR. There are a few candidates for the parents of this Alexander and a record on a MI might just have helped.
Thanks once again
"Tom"

Hi Spacot,

What a very generous offer. Smiley I don't want to ask too much, but I'm looking for Gillan/Gillon/Gillane in Oldhamstocks, Spott and Innerwick? I also have Wallaces in Innerwick/Spott.

Thank you,
hume24

In Dunbar Methodist Church there is grafitti on the walls of the pump room (it's actually a very small space rather than a room) there is the name of a Peter Gillan late 1800's. Presumably he was a boy to fit into such a small place. Anyway, if anyone has details of him I would be interested to hear.

Hi, I was looking for george Bell and marion anderson who married  in 1827 and when i googled  just in a wild hit and hope i came across the names archibald anderson and jean hogg- marion's parents names- my 5 x great grandfather and grandmother.

There was a list on Andersons you put down and i wasnt too sure if they were children of this couple or just anderson names and dates.

thanks in advance,

Andrew

Hi MacT,

Thanks for your reply to my post. Smiley I do have two Peter Gillans in my family tree; one born 1859 in Oldhamstocks and later moved to Spott, and then Dunbar. The other born 1895 in Spott was his son, and he died 1954 in Dunbar. However, there was a few fishing families with the name Gillan (variants were Gullen and Gullane) and Peter was quite a common name with them, so it could easily be one of them I'm afraid. Am I right in saying the Methodist Church is on Victoria St? Think I remember seeing it when I was up the year before last.

Thanks again,
