if the 1901 census has him in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire there is a possible registered in Trapston Northamptonshire Jun Q 1911 vol 3b pg 95 - unless you've eliminated this one already

It's better to provide too much information than the opposite.
If you have him in all censuses where was he living in the most recent?
FreeBMD only goes up to around 1910+/-. More recent than that it's a case of ploughing through the GRO indexes quarter by quarter. Do you have an Ancestry subscription?
I have reservations about the death that gar found - it's John J rather than John T, the age is a couple of years adrift, which may not mean a lot, but it's in the wrong registration district IF the Headlands stayed in Wellingborough.
Later - ploughing through Ancestry images there's a John T Headland aged 75 in the Sept quarter 1919 at Greenwich 1d 742.

A journeyman meant that he had served an apprenticeship and was paid by the day "jour", not that he was a traveller. Still doesn't explain what he was doing in Greenwich. In 1901 there was another John T Headland born 1844 living in Bermondsey which is much closer to Greenwich, a boot clicker so in the same trade so a death cert might not prove a lot. I did 1919 -21 in the GRO indexes. I would carry on looking if I were you as I'm not convinced this is the right John T.
The GRO BMD images are on www.ancestry.co.uk and are easy to use. Wait till the kids are a bit older and you're having to fight them to use the internet. THAT'S when it gets difficult! Which reminds me I've got to pick up my 8 year old from school in 10 minutes, so I'd better finish this post quickly and dash off, as he's bound to want it when he gets back David
