Hi everyone I have received the birth cert for Esther Bird, unfotunately it isn't much help. Esther as suspected is illigitimate no father recorded. Bird is mother Mary's maiden name. Detail given as follows;- b 3 may 1853, it looks like she was born at a womens workhouse in Bedford. registered 14 may 1853. can i ask for your help once again info on workhouses/how to research them. many thanks karen
The Beds Archives have a register of the Bedford Workhouse(s) including birth registers (1836-57). If you know which workhouse, you then can get the particular parish, from which there ought to be christening records.
This should have the Admission record of the mother, & then the Discharge of mother & child.

Hi Karen, If you cannot get to the Archives you could try sending them an email.
